New Delhi:EROS TIMES: July 13—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee Working President Rajesh Lilothia, along with the 14 District observers, held a lengthy meeting with the 280 newly-appointed Block observers at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today and gave them directions on how to go about their responsibility in shortlisting the names of the new Block Congress Committee presidents. The meeting was presided over by Rajesh Lilothia and conducted by Dr A.K.Walia, chairman of the fact-finding committee.
The 280 Block observers have been asked to submit their reports through the District observers to DPCC president Sheila Dikshit within ten days.
The new Block observers expressed their gratitude to DPCC president Smt. Sheila Dikshit for entrusting them with such an important responsibility.
DPCC president Sheila Dikshit, acting upon the recommendations of the five-member committee appointed by her to go into the reasons for the defeat of the seven Congress candidates in the recent Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, had dissolved all the 280 Block Congress Committees, for appointing fresh faces as BCC presidents.
But some of the old BCC presidents may be considered for reappointment if their works have been found to be satisfactory.
The 14 District observers present at the meeting were former Delhi Ministers Dr A.K.Walia, Mangat Ram Singhal, Ramakant Goswami, Prof. Kiran Walia, Dr Narendra Nath, Ch. Mateen Ahmed, Hassan Ahmed, Jitender Kumar Kochar (Jitu), Rohit Manchanda, C.P.Mittal, Rajender Sharma, Subhash Bhardwaj, Charanjeet Rai and Desh Raj Choudhary.
The 280 Block observers were advised to interact with former MPs, MLAs, past and present Municipal Councillors, senior leaders and grass-root level workers to get their views before suggesting the names of the new Block Congress Committee presidents.
The observers were told that the main aim would be to strengthen the party at the grass-root level, particularly at the booth-levels, in a bid to face the upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi with total preparedness.
The Block observers were also asked to keep in regular touch with the District observers to share their feedbacks and get suggestions before submitting their reports to DPCC president Sheila Dikshit through the District observers.
District observer Ch. Mateen Ahmed suggested that the Block observers should hold their meetings in their designated areas by holding extensive discussions with local leaders and workers.
Ramakant Goswami said that the grass-root level workers are the backbones of the party and the Block observers should not only have extensive interaction with the grass-root and both level workers, but also with senior leaders in the area before making their recommendations.
Spokesperson Jitender Kumar Jitu said that the Block observers have been given a very important and heavy responsibility as the new block presidents would be appointed based on their recommendations.
