New Delhi:EROS TIMES: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, under the leadership of its president Subhash Chopra observed the 35th martyrdom day of former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today. A large number of Congress workers and leaders paid floral tributes to Smt. Indira Gandhi.
Subhash Chopra said that Smt. Indira Gandhi was not only an iconic popular leader of the country, but also a historical figure in world politics, who had left an indelible imprint in the minds of legion of people across the world.
Chopra said that for the poor people of Delhi Smt. Indira Gandhi was a messiah as it was she who regularised the unauthorised colonies of Delhi by allotting 25-yard plots to each of the jhuggi dwellers which benefited lakhs of poor people in Delhi. Chopra said that Smt. Indira Gandhi also implemented many schemes which particularly benefited the Dalits, minorities and other people from the lower strata of society. He said that Smt. Indira Gandhi also regularised hundreds of unauthorised colonies which also benefited lakhs of people across Delhi. He said that the real development of Delhi started with the organisation of the 1982 Asian Games under the direct supervision of Indiraji, as landmark stadiums like Nehru Stadium, I.G.Stadium and the Siri Fort Asian Games Villages and many flyovers were constructed then.
Chopra said that Indira ji was known as the iron lady who bifurcated Pakistan to create Bangladesh which gave fresh lease of life to millions of Bengali’s.
Subhash Chopra said that Smt. Indira Gandhi was one of the greatest leaders of India who understood the pulse of the people, and the demands of the country, to put India on the path of development and progress, to make the country a big power in every sense. He said that Smt. Indira Gandhi also took momentous decisions in eradicating poverty and unemployment.
Besides Subhash Chopra, prominent other leaders who paid floral tributes to Indira ji were Ex MPs Ramesh Kumar and Udit Raj, former Minister Delhi Prof Kiran Walia, Ex MLA Veer Singh Dhingan, DCC presidents Kailash Jain, Mohd. Usman, A.R. Joshi, Hari Kishan Jindal and Rajesh Chauhan, Abijit Singh Gulati, Municipal Councillors, district and block Congress committee presidents and a large number of Congress workers.
Subhash Chopra said that after the tenures of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, when Smt. Indira Gandhi became the first woman Prime Minister of the country, India was facing many challenging problems like poverty, social inequality, unemployment, economic, educational, scientific and many other issues, which needed a strong and decisive leadership to address.
He said that Smt. Indira Gandhi achieved unprecedented success in solving these problems, and the country is indebted to her for giving it a powerful identity among the comity of nations.
Subhash Chopra said that Smt. Indira Gandhi was one of the few chosen great leaders of the world who will be remembered for ever. He said that Smt. Gandhi played a vital role in making India a nuclear and economic power, and also a space power to reckon with, to help the country stand on its feet proudly among the big powers. Chopra said that she had great empathy for the poor, and she used to always think of improving the lot of women and children, and initiated many schemes for their welfare.
