New Delhi:EROS TIMES: July 11—A delegation of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) met Lt. Governor’s office at Raj Niwas today and submitted a memorandum, bringing to his notice the “irregularities, nepotism and corruption” being indulged in by Delhi Waqf Board chairman Amanatullah Khan in the appointments to various posts in the Waqf Board without following the due process of procedures, rules and regulations, and seeking the dismissal of Amanullah Khan from the Delhi Waqf Board.
The DPCC delegation, consisting of spokesperson Harnam Singh, Parvez Alam, Ali Mehndi, Parvez Mohammed, Anzar-ul-Haq (Guddu) and Javed Choudhary, also brought to the notice of the LG office a letter from the former CEO of the Delhi Waqf Board Mohammed A Abid, alleging irregularities in handing over the Waqf Board properties worth Rs 100 crores to unauthorised persons without following the due process.
Lt. Governor’s office assured the Congress delegation that very soon, time-bound enquiry would be conducted, and follow the legal procedures to book the concerned people who were party to corruption, irregularities and nepotism in the Delhi Waqf Board.
Parvez Alam said that the Delhi Congress would soon hold a dharna outside the Delhi Waqf Board office to expose the corruption in the Delhi Waqf Board under Amanatullah Khan. Chairman of the DPCC Minority Cell Ali Mehndi said that the Delhi Congress will take this matter to the Muslim community across the Capital as to how the Delhi Waqf Board was being misused by Amantullah Khan for personal gains instead of serving the cause of the Muslim community at large.
The Congress delegation, in the memorandum, pointed out that Amanatullah Khan has been misusing his position as an Aam Aadmi Party MLA and as chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board to appoint some of his own relatives in the Delhi Waqf Board.
The memorandum noted that before appointing his relatives to the Delhi Waqf Board, Amantullah Khan first packed his own relatives and favoured ones in the selection committee, which made his intention of appointing his own relatives in the Waqf Board, easy.
The memorandum elaborated that “such blatant nepotism and corruption have ruined the image of the Delhi Waqf Board”, as the primary objective of the Delhi Waqf Board is to serve the interest of the Muslim community as a whole, and not in a selective manner.
The memorandum pointed out that Amanatullah Khan, while making 33 appointments to the Delhi Waqf Board, flouted all norms right from the advertisements for the posts till the dubious final selections. “The conduct of Amanatullah Khan, his selection panel and the Aam Aadmi Party leaders, smacks of a bigger and deeper recruitment scam, which needs a thorough investigation to unravel the truth, and bring the guilty to book”.
The memorandum noted that “The aim of the advertisements was to deny a fair opportunity to the eligible candidates”. For example, on February 26, 2019, vacancies were advertised in newspapers asking for applications for 33 posts in the Delhi Waqf Board. On March 1 and 2, interviews were conducted in order to stop the spread of words about the vacancies so that a lesser number of eligible candidates could apply. Thus, it became easier for Amanatullah Khan and his close associates in the selection panel to fill the vacancies with their own relatives.
The Delhi Congress leaders urged the Lt. Governor’s Office to probe the illegal appointments in the Delhi Waqf Board and remove Amanatullah Khan from the post as chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board so as to ensure transparency and a fair deal in the functioning and appointments to the Delhi Waqf Board, which should be based on merit, and not on the whims and fancies of the chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board.
